Add a specialist to an established delivery process
A German software company may need a React engineer for a six-month product expansion or a backend developer to complete an integration. Write the brief around the work, the existing patterns and the level of independence required. Your technical lead should be able to explain what a useful first contribution would look like.
Include the review and deployment process in the assessment. An engineer who understands your framework still needs to learn domain rules and team conventions. Evaluate how they ask questions and reason about a representative change, not simply the number of technologies in their profile.
Prepare onboarding before the start date
Set up individual accounts, a development guide and a named reviewer. If access requires internal approval, begin that process early. Choose a first task with a small production impact that exercises implementation, testing and review.
Record the expected overlap for planning and technical discussion. Avoid scheduling all collaboration at the edge of someone’s day. Routine progress can be written, leaving shared hours for decisions and pairing. The actual schedule and engineer availability must be agreed for the assignment.
Keep a temporary assignment maintainable
For a time-limited role, reserve space for documentation and handover within the engagement. Ensure important components receive review from the permanent team and that operational notes live in shared systems.
If the work expands into a continuing product area, reassess the model before extending the same role indefinitely. A dedicated team may become more appropriate when several complementary skills are needed. The initial hiring discussion should make that distinction clear without requiring a larger commitment upfront.
