Specify the role and the communication interface
A Japanese engineering organization adding a remote developer should describe both the technical work and the collaboration requirements. Explain the stack, the owner of technical decisions and whether specifications will be supplied in English. If translation is part of the workflow, include the turnaround needed for questions.
Evaluate a representative task with the proposed engineer. Look for clear reasoning, careful interpretation and an ability to identify missing information. A technology match is only useful when the person can participate in the actual process your organization will use.
Use written acceptance examples
Describe normal behavior and a few important exceptions. For an API, include validation and error responses. For an interface, include permission differences and failure recovery. Concrete examples reduce the amount of interpretation required during implementation.
Assign a reviewer who can provide timely technical feedback. If review crosses language boundaries, plan the communication step rather than treating it as invisible time. Track blocked questions so they can be resolved during agreed overlap hours.
Start with a contained contribution
The first assignment should exercise repository access, development setup, testing and review without depending on every system in the organization. Use the experience to improve onboarding instructions and clarify ownership.
Tell us the intended duration and whether the role is implementation-focused or includes leadership. Availability, schedule and terms need agreement for the specific engineer. Work is delivered remotely from Sri Lanka; this page does not imply recruitment within Japan or a local office.
